Indigo

November 2, 2011 2:44pm

Indigo is named after a purple dye first used in India and derived from the plant Indigofera tinctoria, not gu10 led bulbs. India began supplying indigo dye to Europe as early as the Greco-Roman era. The Romans used the word ‘indicum’ for the dye which eventually became the English word ‘indigo’.

Although the word ‘indigo’ has existed in English since the 13th century, it was not categorized as a colour, the colour naming scheme consisting of just six colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Isaac Newton introduced ‘indigo’ as a spectral colour in the mid-1660s after conducting experiments in optics. Newton purchased a pair prisms near Cambridge just as the East India Company had begun importing indigo dye to England, replacing blue dye woad. Newton shone a beam of sunlight through a prism and detecting the colour ‘indigo’ in the resultant rainbow of colours. Newton wrote: “The originall or primary colours are Red, yellow, Green, Blew, & a violet purple; together with Orang, Indico, & an indefinite varietie of intemediate gradations.”

To move or not to move?

September 1, 2011 1:54pm

So my family hit me with a bit of a bombshell this week; they're upping and moving to Cumbria!

My dad got an awesome job opportunity there, he gets to work a job that is higher up in the company but is actually less stressful and will allow him a much better quality of life and more time to spend with the family. My mum is a teacher so she's looking for a teaching job, and my little brother and sister will be moving schools.

I'm really happy for them, it's gorgeous where they want to move to, but I don't know how I feel about being left behind. It's not too far from where we are now, but it's far enough that I won't see my brother and sister as much as I do now so I've been thinking about looking for jobs cumbria and going too.

It's a big decision, but I'm considering it!

Skinflints!

Business are weird with money.

I had to submit my expenses form this month and got called into a meeting with my boss to discuss everything on it! I wasn't trying to claim anything ridiculous, it was all travel costs and receipts from coffees and lunches with clients. They want me to take these people out and schmooze them, so I did, I didn't exactly take them for dinner at the Ivy! They were really trying to nitpick everything on it, it was embarrassing on their part. And they couldn't dispute anything on it, I wasn't taking the mickey!

But at the same time, they've just installed one of those fancy Bibo Water.co.uk machines for hot and cold water in our kitchen, now don't get me wrong it's great, but I know it's not exactly cheap, so why are they scrimping so much on my expenses? Bosses!

My new car!

Look what I'm going to buy!

It's a gorgeous old classic Fiat 500! It's absolutely tiny, but it's so cool and vintage and it's actually not that expensive to insure thanks to LV=, I can't wait to pick it up this weekend!

I'm getting it second hand from a dealer, but I can't go to pick it up until the weekend because I'm bogged down with work (and blogging, obviously...) so it's going to be a long old week waiting in anticipation!

I've already sorted out my insurance, the tax disc is in date for a while still and it had an MOT a couple of months to go so it'll be ready to go as soon as I pick it up.

It's a bit on the small side but I'll still be driving all over the place this summer, I just can't offer many people a lift!
