NEWS Please note that unfortunately no hire is available this year. We have no bikes at present but hope to be back with a new fleet soon; hopefully in 2009. Apologies for any inconvenience. Setmurthy Trail Group Setmurthy Woods near Cockermouth have been growing in poularity with mountain biking in recent years and an impressive network of technical singletrack had become established to complement the existing downhill course. Recently, as a result of a breakdown in communications, many of the bridges essential to the "flow" of the trails were destroyed. However, following counsultation with the forestry commision, a users group has been established and this will hopefully lead to the trails being restored to, or beyond, their former glory with more substantial structures in place where necesssary whilst maintaining an organic feel to the riding. Nice.
Other News Developments are still in progress to turn Whinlatter Forest here in northwest Cumbria into a mountain biking haven to rival the existing world class purpose built singletrack routes of Scotlands 7-Stanes project and other Welsh developments such as Coed-y-Brenin. The building hasn't started yet but plenty is happening behind the scenes. Keep updated on the MTB-Lakes Whinlatter Noticeboard . In the meantime here's some recent pics from the 7-Stanes Mabie Forest route>>>>>>>>>>> Unfortunately Whinlatter developments are not exactly happening due to much opposition to the plans. Hopefully some compromises can be reached before England falls even futher behind its's neighbours. Come on - lets have something to be proud of!
